Eastern Yellow Robin

FAMILY NAME:    Petroicidae    SCIENTIFIC NAME:   Eopsaltria australis    SUBSPECIES:    australis and chrysorrhoa

SIZE:   15 to 16cm.   (6") tip to tail.

LOCATION:   Found down the eastern regions and ranges, and the southeast corner of Australia.

BREEDING:   Breeding season is from July to January, laying from 2 to 3 eggs, in a clutch. They may lay up to three clutches during the breeding season. Their nests are cup shaped, and woven together using bark, grass, leaf material and spider webs. They are usually positioned in trees, high above the ground. The female builds the nest and incubates the eggs, but both parents care for the young.

GENERAL:   Both sexes are dark grey, with bright yellow underparts and rump. Their bill is black. A very confident bird, which will approach humans quite closely, without fear.
