SIZE: 9 to 11cm. (4 to 4.5") tip to tail.
LOCATION: Found down the eastern coastal regions of Australia, and in Indonesia.
BREEDING: Breeding season is from July to January, usually laying 2 eggs. Both the male and female feed their young, but only the female incubates. They may have 3 broods in a season.
GENERAL: The male has a scarlet head, back and breast, with black wings and tail and whitish underparts. The female is brown with whitish underparts. Their diet consists of mainly nectar, and they do eat fruit and insects. Found in open woodland, usually near water, and are a resident bird.
